In July 2022, the Canadian Apparel retailer, Gildan Activewear, fully closed operations of its owned factory in Honduras known as Gildan San Miguel. Gildan negotiated with worker representatives regarding the terms of the closure and agreed to provide factory employees $2.5 million in additional severance (above the legal requirement). The company also agreed to provide the workers with priority hiring, extended health coverage, and other benefits.
