Re: | Former WRC Board Member Julie Su Nominated to Head US Labor Department |
I am very glad to share the news that former WRC Board Member Julie Su was nominated by President Biden this week to serve as United States Secretary of Labor, the highest position in the US government responsible for worker rights. She is currently acting U.S. Secretary of Labor, after having served in the U.S. Labor Department’s second-highest position, Deputy Secretary of Labor since 2021.
You may recall that last year we were fortunate to have Secretary Su join us as keynote speaker at the WRC’s annual University Caucus meeting.
The WRC team has known Secretary Su for many years and began working with her closely when, as California’s Labor Commissioner, she asked the WRC to train her statewide staff on techniques for workplace investigation. She served on the WRC Board from 2017 until 2021, when she was appointed and confirmed as Deputy U.S. Secretary of Labor. We are excited that Secretary Su will now bring her immense talents and exemplary dedication to heading the U.S. Department of Labor’s mission to protect and promote the rights of workers, across the US and globally. We are looking forward to continuing to work with Secretary Su and her colleagues at the Department of Labor in furtherance of the shared commitments that both universities and our government have made to support the advancement of worker rights in the global economy.
