Invitation: WRC University Caucus Meeting, April 26, 2013
February 7, 2013
As you know, the 2013 Worker Rights Consortium University Caucus Annual meeting will be Friday, April 26 in Washington, DC. I write today to invite you formally to participate in this one-day session. The meeting will be at Georgetown University and will run from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Please let us know whether you will be able to join us.
The meeting will involve presentations, updates and discussions on the following subjects:
- A review of the WRC’s labor rights work over the past year, including updates on key factory investigations and related projects.
- The deepening fire safety crisis in South Asia, the failure of industry monitoring programs to address the problem, and prospects for reform.
- The problem of wage theft in the collegiate apparel sector, including nonpayment of legally mandated severance, minimum wage violations and improper overtime compensation, with an update on the PT Kizone case and a report on new WRC work on these issues in Haiti and India.
- Status of the Designated Suppliers Program and the Alta Gracia factory.
- Recent wage trends in the apparel industry and the implications for achieving compliance with fair and living wage standards.
As always, there will be open discussion time, so that participants can raise any issue of interest.
We will be sending out a complete agenda, a list of guest speakers, information on the specific location of the meeting at Georgetown University and a suggested list of hotel options soon.
Please RSVP at your earliest convenience, by writing to Lynnette Dunston at[email protected] and please contact me with any questions about the agenda or other issues.
I hope to see you in April.
Best,
Scott
