Save the Date: WRC Annual Meeting, April 23
January 29, 2021
Dear Colleagues,
The past year has brought more upheaval to the international garment industry than any other year we have experienced, bringing economic devastation to many garment workers and new challenges to the work of ensuring compliance with university codes of conduct. We hope you can join the Worker Rights Consortium at our Annual Meeting to reflect on the challenges of protecting the rights of workers producing collegiate apparel during the pandemic, how the WRC has tackled investigating, remedying, and preventing violations in this unique moment, and what actions the WRC and universities can take going forward to protect these vulnerable workers around the world.
Please mark your calendars for the 2021 Annual Meeting of the University Caucus of the Worker Rights Consortium.
Friday, April 23, 2021
12:30 pm ET – 4:00 pm ET
This meeting will be held remotely via Zoom.
Among the topics for discussion will be:
- The WRC’s guidance to university licensees regarding forced labor in the Uyghur region of China and licensees’ responses;
- New research on the impact of the pandemic on garment workers; and
- The WRC’s guidance to and engagement with licensees and other brands regarding workers’ fundamental rights and survival needs during the pandemic.
We will also provide an overview of organizational developments and our engagement with licensees regarding violations of university codes of conduct, and we will facilitate space for open discussion. Please feel free to reach out to either of us with specific suggestions or questions regarding the meeting.
We will be sharing an RSVP link and an agenda in the coming weeks.
We very much hope you can join us.
Sincerely,
Scott Nova and Jessica Champagne
