WRC University Caucus Meeting
April 13, 2017
Dear Colleagues,
We are looking forward to seeing you at the WRC University Caucus Meeting on Thursday, May 4.
You can review the agenda for the meeting here. We’ll be discussing the ongoing Hansae Vietnam case, of course, as well as the recently resolved case of Rio Garments, and other key investigations. We’ll be looking at the vital question of what constitutes an adequate remedy when university labor code violations are identified. We will be addressing the issue of government repression of peaceful worker protest in Asia and Latin America and how this affects labor rights work. We’ll give you an update on the Bangladesh Accord and on Alta Gracia. And we’ll take a look at the impact of universities’ labor rights efforts on the broader apparel industry.
We are also pleased to have several guest speakers, including representatives of the licensees Outerstuff, Tailgate Clothing, and Zephyr Graf-Z, and a guest presentation from television journalist Brian Ross, the Chief Investigative Correspondent for ABC News, who will offer an inside perspective on how the media covers the issues of labor rights and corporate responsibility.
As always, there will be ample time for discussion.
As you know, the meeting will take place at the Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies, at 640 Massachusetts Ave., NW. You can see a map of the area, and the meeting location, on Google Maps at this link. Please have a photo ID upon arrival, as this will need to be presented at the front security desk.
If you have any questions about meeting logistics, please contact Ariana Gangloff at [email protected] or at 202-387-4884. If you have any questions about the agenda or discussion topics, please contact me.
Best,
Scott
