WRC University Caucus Meeting Invitation: April 28, 2011
Dear Colleagues,
I write to invite you to the 2011 WRC University Caucus Annual Meeting on Thursday, April 28 at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. The meeting will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The meeting will involve presentations, updates and discussions on all of the following subjects:
- A comprehensive review of the WRC’s work over the past year
- Updates on key projects and factory cases, including Nike (Hugger and Vision Tex), Russell (Jerzees Nuevo Dia), Gildan Dortex, minimum wage violations in India, DSP, and other cases of interest
- Critical issues in the enforcement of university labor codes, including:
- Wages and labor unrest in key countries
- Fire safety in the South Asia region and the implications of this issue for the university apparel market
- The role of company-controlled and government-controlled unions in blocking workers’ exercise of their associational rights and effective remedies
- Potential enhancements to the WRC Model Code of Conduct
- Alta Gracia Apparel and research on the impact of the project on workers and their families
There will also be substantial time for open discussion of any issues of interest to attendees.
