Case Summary
The WRC identified violations of law and university labor codes at Din Han in the context of a temporary factory closure, driven initially by a Covid-19 outbreak among workers and then by a government-ordered shutdown. Din Han failed to pay legally mandated wages to workers for two months, a violation that was particularly painful for workers amidst the hardships generated by the government shutdown, with some workers reporting to the WRC that they could not buy food. In response to the WRC’s findings and recommendations for remedial action, the licensee successfully pressed Din Han to pay workers back wages in accordance with the law and applicable government directives. This resolution helped workers and their families survive the government shutdown.
