WRC Factory Investigation

Jasper

Factory: Jasper

Key Buyers: Champion, Gear for Sports, Hanesbrands, Knights Apparel

Last Updated: 2025

Case Summary

Following the 2022 closure of the Hanesbrands Incorporated (HBI)-owned factory in Honduras, known as Jasper, workers alleged, and the WRC confirmed, that HBI illegally blacklisted employees who were elected union leaders at Jasper. The blacklisting was discrimination against the worker leaders, who were denied opportunities for rehiring at another nearby HBI-owned facility.

The WRC engaged with HBI, and, ultimately, the company rehired some but not all of the 23 worker leaders who reported the blacklisting.

In the course of the WRC’s investigation, HBI sold its collegiate licensed apparel business (Gear for Sports, Champion, and Knights Apparel) and closed the operation of the other nearby HBI-owned facility in Honduras, making it impossible to continue to seek remediation for the remaining workers who never received offers of employment.
