Last Updated: 2017
Case Summary
In August 2016, Rio Garment, a collegiate supplier factory, unexpectedly closed its operations. The WRC’s investigation found that, at the time of the closure, the factory owed its workers $1.3 million in compensation. Following the WRC’s investigation and engagement with the university licensee, Tailgate Clothing Company, and other buyers, these apparel companies provided almost $1,000,000 to remedy the violations. This money was distributed to workers in April 2017. In combination with funds generated by the sale of factory goods and equipment, these buyers’ contributions fully resolved the violations that occurred at the time of the closure.
