Case Summary
In multiple investigations by the WRC, during the years of its operation, Style Avenue was found to have repeated labor rights violations, including forced overtime, illegal terminations, verbal abuse by management, failure to respect freedom of association, locking workers in the factory, excessive heat, and unsanitary conditions.
In 2023, the factory permanently closed operations, failing to pay its 244 workers approximately $1.8 million in wages, benefits, and terminal compensation. In the months leading up to the factory’s closure, the factory’s primary buyer was Outerstuff, for which the factory manufactured collegiate licensed children’s apparel and non-collegiate licensed children’s apparel that was co-branded with Disney, the National Basketball Association, and the National Football League.
The WRC engaged with Outerstuff, which agreed to remedy the violations by paying US$1.8 million to the factory’s workers, representing 100 percent of the funds they were legally owed at the time of the closure.
