Re:Implementation of Nike-CGT Agreement

We are writing to you with an update on the agreement signed between Nike and the Central General de Trabajadores de Honduras (CGT) on July 23, 2010.

While other major elements of the agreement have been implemented, information from Honduras increasingly indicates that Nike is not fulfilling its commitments concerning the hiring of the workers who lost their jobs when the Hugger and Vision Tex factories closed. There is evidence that very few of the 1,445 workers eligible for priority hiring at Nike’s Honduran supplier factories have actually been hired. Indeed, a recent report commissioned by Nike itself has shown that one of Nike’s key suppliers has failed to hire a single worker under the terms of the agreement, even though that supplier has filled more than a thousand positions since the agreement was signed.

We are continuing to gather information and are preparing a detailed report on the situation. In the meantime, we wanted you to be aware of our growing concern.

We understand that a meeting will take place soon between the parties. Given that the agreement has been in place for more than a year, it is important that this meeting yield significant progress towards full implementation of Nike’s hiring commitments.

If you have any questions regarding the situation, please feel free to contact us.
